The Junior Autumn Classic has proudly run consecutively for 31 years and counting, becoming a highly anticipated event in the local sports community!
Since its inception, the tournament has grown in both size and reputation, attracting teams and fans from across the state. With 31 years of success behind it, the Junior Autumn Classic continues to thrive, promising many more years of thrilling basketball action!
The Junior Autumn Classic has established itself as a cornerstone of the area’s basketball culture, showcasing both emerging talent and seasoned players. 1994 – NOW!

1994: The Birth of a Tournament
The Junior Autumn Classic was founded in 1993 by Whittlesea City Basketball Association (WCBA) in Mill Park, just north of Melbourne. With a vision to promote the sport and create a competitive yet fun atmosphere for local teams, the first tournament featured just a few teams from the local area. The early years focused on fostering community spirit, developing young talent, and building the reputation of the tournament in Victoria.
Throughout the late 1990s, the tournament began to grow, attracting more teams from surrounding districts. It was clear that the event had potential, with local domestic and representative basketball clubs eager to participate. The Junior Autumn Classic gained recognition for its well-organized events, with a focus on inclusivity, competitive play, and promoting sportsmanship. These early years laid a solid foundation for future growth.

In 2024, the Junior Autumn Classic stands as a testament to the dedication, passion, and vision of its founders and supporters. The event has come a long way from its modest origins. With over 250 teams participating annually, the tournament continues to grow, offering players the opportunity to showcase their talents.
